The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are turning over their offense to Jameis Winston. Coach Lovie Smith officially named the first overall pick in the NFL draft his starting quarterback on Friday, saying the 2013 Heisman Trophy is ready for the role. Winston shared snaps with third-year pro Mike Glennon during minicamp and OTA’s, working with second- and third-stringers, as well as the No. 1 offense.
Jameis Winston, the number one pick in the NFL draft, got the nod Friday as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers starting quarterback. Bucs head coach Lovie Smith said Winston would be working with the first team when training camp begins on Saturday. “Jameis Winston will be our starting quarterback,” Smith said.

Smith said he wouldn’t have made this move — especially this soon — if he didn’t think Winston was ready. The early reports are that Winston has done everything he needs to, preparation-wise, and that he’s winning over his teammates to date, which would back up Smith’s quick decision. “I would never put a guy in that position if he wasn’t ready for that,” Smith said. “A lot has been said about Jameis and mentors.
