NFL teams do most of their free-agent shopping in March, or right after the draft when they figure out what holes still need to be filled. Sometimes a gift comes in June, like a surprise cut of Jeremy Maclin or Eric Decker, but for the most part if a player is out of a job after July 4, it will likely be tough to get one. Then you peruse the list of available free agents and realize there are some good players who are still looking for work.
